SOLDIER'S HEART HEALING RETREAT

*PLEASE NOTE: Priority will be given to applicants living in western Pennsylvania. There are expected to be openings for those living outside 

of this area, so all are encouraged to apply.

Soldier's Heart retreats restore warriors and their communities by providing veterans, service members, family members, helping professionals and caring community members a safe space to learn and practice ways of successful homecoming and healing from war and military service as found in Dr. Edward Tick's book, War and the Soul. 
Retreat Leaders:

Dr. Edward Tick has been honored for his groundbreaking work in the spiritual, holistic and community-based healing of veterans and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He has been a psychotherapist for 40 years and has been specializing in working with veterans since the 1970s.

Dr. Tick is an internationally recognized educator and expert on veterans, PTSD, and the psychology of military-related issues. He has conducted trainings, retreats and workshops across the country and overseas. He has lectured and trained staff and worked with wounded warriors at West Point, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Fort Knox, Altus Air Force Base and other Dept. of Defense facilities. The Department of Defense now uses his pioneering work and he was the U.S. Army’s 2012 trainer for its annual Chaplain Sustainment Training in PTSD.

Dr. Denise McMorrow is a Licensed Psychologist and artist whose work focuses on the ecology of

sacred relationships between Self, community, and the natural world.  She integrates respectful 

understanding and practice of Earth Medicine Ways to engage Heart and Spirit, as well as one’s 

Body-Mind. She has trained and worked with the Soldier’s Heart model of restoring warrior 

spirituality in community for the past nine years completing her post-doctoral research with

Soldier’s Heart. She has worked with veterans and family members in private practice and as 

coordinator of Military Psychological Services at Duquesne University, as a member of 

Canyon Heroes' therapeutic team bringing a group of  wounded veterans down 187 miles of the 

Colorado River, assisting and participating in many Soldier’s Heart retreats, and accompanying

Dr. Tick in his most recent healing and reconciliation journey to Viet Nam. She is honored to 

be serving as incoming President of the Soldier’s Heart Board of Directors, and to be co-leading 

this healing retreat with her dear Bo Gia.
